A stance without hatred

Social tensions are on the rise, and crises and uncertainties are shaping our everyday lives. Constructive dialogue seems to be increasingly lost, whilst mistrust, polarisation and a lack of communication are on the rise – even beyond the fringes of the political spectrum.

Ahmad Mansour’s talk, ‘Stance without Hatred’, examines these developments and asks how a democratic society can re-engage in dialogue. The focus is on the key question of how the capacity for dialogue can be maintained and strengthened – even with people who hold different opinions. The talk advocates an open culture of dialogue as the foundation of democratic coexistence and highlights why listening and engagement are crucial to counteracting social fragmentation.

Ahmad Mansour is a qualified psychologist and author based in Berlin. His work focuses on promoting democracy, preventing extremism and combating antisemitism. He works nationwide as a speaker at schools, universities, government agencies and in the business sector, and in 2018 founded an initiative for the promotion of democracy and the prevention of extremism. He is also the author of numerous books and a regular columnist for *Die Welt*.
